Q. What's my default SWOSU student email password?

Around November 8th and 9th, 2018, SWOSU ITS will reset all students' email passwords to a default password.

This is a password reset only for student email accounts. Passwords for Canvas and MySWOSU are not being reset. Employee passwords are not being reset.



What's my new default password?

  • After ITS resets your password, your default password will be either
    • DawgXXXX, where XXXX is the last four digits of your Social Security Number; or
    • DawgMMDD for students who don't have a Social Security Number. Replace MM with your birth month and replace DD with your birth date. If your birth month or birth date is a single digit use 01, 02, 03, etc. (For example, if you were born on January 3rd, your default Dawgtag is Dawg0103.)

Change your default password to login to library databases.

If you're unable to reset your student email password, contact the SWOSU ITS Help Desk at (580)774-7070 or email helpdesk@swosu.edu. The library cannot reset your email password.

If you've successfully reset your password but can't login to the library, go to Ask a Librarian to get help from the library by phone, email, chat, or SMS text.

SWOSU ITS has posted on Canvas this announcement about the student email password reset:




Due to conversion delays, the default passwords will not be changed until the end of this week. We anticipate this change being completed by Friday evening, November 9th.


SWOSU will be implementing a Single Sign-On (SSO) solution to enable you to take control when you forget your password, as well as allowing you easy access to your most commonly used applications such as Email, MySWOSU, and Canvas. This way, users will only have one password to remember for all the systems. This will be implemented within the next few days (more information coming soon regarding SSO). Preparing for the transition, passwords will be changing for all student email accounts. This only affects the email accounts at this time.

Beginning on Monday, November 5, the passwords will be changed to a default password. Not all accounts will be changed immediately so if your current password does not work, try using your new password. You will need to change your account settings on all mobile devices if you have your email set on them.

For students who have a Social Security Number, the new default password will be DawgXXXX, where the XXXX represents the last four digits of your SSN.

If you do not have a Social Security Number, the new default password will be DawgXXXX, where the XXXX represents your birth month and birth day (Example: 0617 for June 17th).
